Community 2.5.0: 23 components move to Pro

Today we're making a decision we didn't love to make. We searched for a sponsor for the Community kit to keep it free, but couldn't find an interested party. We made the decision to cut the number of available components in our free shadcn/ui kit in half.

What changed#

With Community 2.5.0, these 23 components are now Pro only:

Button Group, Carousel, Chart, Command, Context Menu, Data Table, Date Picker & Calendar, Drawer, Empty, Hover Card, Input File, Input OTP, Item, Menubar, Navigation Menu, Progress, Resizable, Sheet, Sidebar, Skeleton, Slider, Sonner, Toggle & Toggle Group.

Their pages are still in the Community file. Instead of editable components, each page now shows the component as a view-only image, with a link to the Pro version.

Together with the components that already moved to Pro in 2.4.0 (Attachment, Bubble, Marker, Message, Message Scroller and Questionnaire) and the ones that were never in Community (Trace and Code Block), that makes 31 Pro-only components. Community keeps 30 shadcn/ui components in the Nova style, in light mode.

Why#

Our kit was too generous, and it was hurting our sales tremendously.

When we switched to a commercial model in March, the idea was simple: sales fund kit improvements, improvements drive more value, and more value drives more sales. That cycle only works if there’s a real reason to buy. With almost every component available for free, for many people there wasn’t.

Our Community kit is less generous now, and we are curious how this will affect sales.

We’d like to thank everyone who has downloaded the Community edition.

Already using Community?#

If you duplicated an earlier version of the Community file, your copy doesn’t change. Figma Community duplicates are your own files, so the components in them stay editable. Only new duplicates of the Community file get 2.5.0.

What you get with Pro#

Pro has every component, including the 31 that aren’t in Community, in all 8 shadcn/ui styles (Nova, Vega, Luma, Rhea, Sera, Lyra, Mira and Maia), in light and dark mode. It also includes the Pro Blocks, the CSS Export and shadcn/ui Create plugins, and every update we ship from here on. The Pro page has a side-by-side comparison with Community.
