Presenting an updated Customer Center

An “indie hacker” lesson since building out Obra Icons a few years ago: if something isn’t easy to update, you won’t do it. And our shadcn/ui Pro Figma kit gets updated a lot — 17 versions since the initial Pro release.

Imagine uploading every single version, in 4 variants for 4 different styles, manually to LemonSqueezy. That would be a huge pain — and I’m not sure that level of file variance is even supported. So I built a dedicated “download center” to make it easy on myself. And if it’s easy for me to upload, we can offer a better experience to customers too. Now, getting a new version out just means I export from Figma, run one script, and it’s all downloadable.

What is LemonSqueezy?

Our merchant of record — a service acquired by Stripe in 2024 that handles selling digital assets worldwide, including collecting VAT in every country, for a 5% fee plus 50 cents per transaction. It also gives us proper business invoicing, so you can recoup your VAT.

From Download Center to Customer Center#

Today we’ve renamed the Download Center to the Customer Center and improved the general experience. Here’s what’s new.

Clearer Pro React Blocks#

The kit has its own code registry for the Pro Blocks, but many people didn’t realise it existed. The Customer Center now gives you copy-paste code for authenticating with the private shadcn/ui blocks registry, surfaced right where you need it. For the full walkthrough, see the Pro Blocks developer tutorial.

Guidance on choosing a shadcn/ui style#

Some people struggle to pick the right shadcn/ui style, so the Customer Center now explains the four we offer — Vega, Nova, Luma and Rhea — with guidance on which to choose. Two more are on the way: we’ve started work on Mira and Sera.

Use cases for plugin downloads (Org/Enterprise only)#

Organization and Enterprise licenses include the plugin source code, and we’ve added ideas for tailoring it. For example, if you add custom variables to your Figma kit, it’s worth extending the CSS export to output them too.

Wrapping up#

We hope these changes make the initial onboarding experience for Obra shadcn/ui Pro a little smoother.

And there’s no better time to jump in: we recently dropped the individual Pro license by €50, so it’s now €149 instead of €199.
